TA3 - MIT’s Stata Center and Brain and Cognitive Science Complex

We visit two state-of-the-art buildings at MIT that are both about the same size but are radically different from each other: The Stata Center by Frank Gehry Partners and Cannon Design, which houses dry labs and computer materials, and the Brain and Cognitive Science Complex by Charles Correa and Goody Clancy, which contains wet labs and animal facilities. This tour highlights the award-winning preservation work of Ann Beha Architects (ABA), which is known for a commitment to the revitalization of historic resources. Members of the firm guide us through three preservation projects: the extensive renovation of the Mary Baker Eddy Library, Boston's Symphony Hall, and the restoration of Jordan Hall at the New England Conservatory. TA6 - Re-interpreting Alvar Aalto's Baker House at MIT

This tour explores various interpretations of Alvar Aalto's Baker House at MIT. As one of Aalto's two major American buildings, this 1947 structure has been interpreted as an evocative naturalistic response to the Charles River and a diagram of modernist community living. Led by F. Douglas Adams.
