How to work with an architect
The architect and author of the best-selling book, How to Work with an Architect, reveals the essential criteria for a successful architect/client relationship from project conception to completion. A home design and construction project can be a daunting undertaking. How do you know if you really need an architect? How do you find a good architect and what questions should you ask? This workshop is for individuals who are remodeling an existing home or building a new home. It is designed for both first-timers considering the advantages of working with an architect as well as those who have already enlisted the services of a seasoned professional.

The architect/builder team: Collaboration isn’t just a buzz word
Collaboration is an art and, gracefully done, can be at the heart of a successful project. Join a collaborative design/ build team that has figured out how to keep egos in check and work closely and collaboratively with clients. We share a case study of a challenging Back Bay residential project by discussing our roles, the client’s role, scheduling, job estimates, and the other nuts and bolts that shaped a successful design and construction project. The client was happy and we are happily working together on our next project. Come learn why.

Color: practical applications, inspired results
Do you walk into other people’s homes and think, "The color looks great in here, but it just wouldn't work in my home"? Do you imagine a more colorful existence but somehow talk yourself out of making a daring color statement? Wonder why you feel energized in some rooms and drained in others? Are you ready for color change, but living with a "hue-challenged" partner? In this informative and interactive color seminar, we review basic color theory and concepts and provide an opportunity for you to experiment with color. Come with a blank slate and leave with a color-inspired palette.

Design touchstones for your home and garden
When construction is complete, will your project be a success? A great project is more than new space, fabulous fixtures, or a showcase front yard. We explore the qualities that make homes and gardens places of daily meaning and joy and describe what we believe are the five fundamental aspirations that create wonderful homes and successful relationships between houses and gardens. Why hire an architect? What do architects do, anyway?
You've finally decided to renovate your home and you're not sure if you need to hire an architect. Or, you are a contractor who wants to understand what the heck that architect you're working with is talking about! Consider this your “Architect 101” course: what it takes to be an architect, types of education and licensure, the five phases of design (more like 7 or 8, but we'll cover that too!), and resources for interviewing and hiring architects. Learn why an architect is an important resource for your project.
